Metal fabrication and installation in Istanbul

Home to our production base: villas concentrated along the north–west belt, industry along the Hadımköy–İkitelli corridor.

01Area

What kind of work comes up in Istanbul?

For us, Istanbul is both where we manufacture and the province where we work most. The workshop is in Arnavutköy; all fabrication is done there, and every job across the city is served from there. In practical terms, this means a short gap between the site survey and installation, and if an extra part is needed during installation, we can make the return trip the same day.

In terms of the work it generates, the city splits into two distinct belts. The north and west — Sarıyer, Eyüpsultan, Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Çatalca, Silivri — is villa and detached-house territory. Requests from here are for entrance gates, gate automation, wall-top railings, wrought iron and garden fencing. Because plots are large, openings are wide and sliding systems come to the fore.

The second is the industrial and commercial band of Hadımköy–İkitelli and Beylikdüzü–Esenyurt. Here the work changes completely: steel structures for warehouses and workshops, roof renewal, mezzanines, site fencing, automatic roller shutters and facade cladding. The reason we can take on a villa entrance and a warehouse roof in the same week is that both belts are close to the workshop.

The constraint we meet most often in Istanbul is not technical but access: narrow streets, vehicle entry permits inside gated communities, restricted installation hours and traffic. We note these during the site survey and plan part lengths and delivery times around them. If long parts cannot make the turn into a street, we split the structure so it can be joined on site.

The city’s older building stock opens up a separate line of work: replacing apartment building entrance doors, adding a fire escape stair or bringing an existing one into line with regulations, and repairing wrought iron railings made years ago. Measuring is harder here than on new buildings, because nothing is quite square; so for fabrication that has to fit an existing structure, we take templates and verify dimensions at several points rather than one.

Demand profile

Demand in Istanbul falls into four distinct streams, and all four are steady. From the north–west villa belt: entrance gates, automation and railings; from the industrial band: steel structures, roofs and mezzanines; from the commercial corridors: roller shutters and facades; and from the older building stock: apartment building doors, fire escape stairs and wrought iron repair.

This is the province where we are busiest, and the reason is not only its population but the fact that the workshop is here. A job within Istanbul needs no separate shipping plan; that shortens the time from site survey to installation compared with other provinces and makes small-scale jobs viable too.

03Local conditions

What drives our decisions in Istanbul?

Climate, ground, wind and access conditions directly change our decisions on sections, surface treatment and installation. This section explains what we do differently in this area, and why.

  1. 01

    Narrow streets and crane access

The constraint we meet most often in the city is not technical but access. Streets that long parts cannot turn into, facades where a crane cannot be set up, and parking problems directly shape the installation plan. We note these during the site survey and adjust part lengths and delivery times accordingly; if needed, we split the structure so it can be joined on site. An access problem discovered only on site wastes the entire installation day.

  2. 02

    Community management and standard designs

In districts with many planned gated communities, additions to a facade are usually subject to management approval; color, height and solid-to-open ratio may be defined in writing. After the site survey, we prepare the drawing so it can go straight into the approval file. We do not start fabrication until approval is granted.

  3. 03

    Uncertain dimensions in older buildings

In the city’s older building stock, no opening is quite square; differences measured in centimeters between two sides and walls out of plumb are normal. For fabrication that must fit an existing structure, we measure at several points rather than one and make a template if needed. A frame built to a single measurement either jams in such an opening or leaves a visible gap.

Situations we often encounter in this area

We don’t give client names, project names or dates; what we describe is the situation itself and how it was solved.

  • A villa entrance and a warehouse roof in the same week

A normal situation in Istanbul, made possible because both belts are close to the workshop. A villa entrance calls for fine workmanship and surface quality; a warehouse roof calls for scale and installation planning. The two need different crew setups. When building the schedule, we take care not to let them overlap, because splitting one crew in two slows both jobs down.

  • Adding a fire escape stair to an existing building

A frequent job in the older building stock. The difficulty here is not the stair itself but how it connects to the existing building: the facade material, the condition of the floor slabs and the position of the exit doors all have to be resolved together. We measure floor by floor, because floor heights are not always equal. Whether a stair is required at all is a regulatory matter; we recommend confirming it with the relevant municipal department.

06Delivery and installation

How do site surveys and installation work in Istanbul?

Because production is in Arnavutköy, deliveries within Istanbul need no separate planning; parts leave the workshop and go straight to site. Survey and installation scheduling is most flexible here.

For most jobs, measuring takes a single visit; for fabrication that must fit an older building, a second visit is added for verification or templating. What really determines installation time is access and working-hour restrictions, not the size of the job itself. We state the exact number of days in the quote after the site survey.

We have no branches or dealers; all fabrication is done in our own workshop in Arnavutköy. Price and lead time depend on the size of the job, the opening and the installation conditions — so we don’t quote a figure or a number of days up front here. Send your measurements and location, and we’ll work it out for your project.

07FAQ

Frequently asked questions for Istanbul

  • Do you come to every district of Istanbul?

We do. The north and west are where we work regularly, so scheduling is more flexible there; on the Anatolian side and in outlying districts, we plan according to the size of the job. Send us your location and we will explain how we work in that district.

  • Can I visit the workshop?

You can. At the Arnavutköy workshop you can see jobs in fabrication and the surface treatment stages firsthand. Seeing and handling a profile section and the infill spacing gives a much clearer picture at the decision stage than looking at a catalog; just let us know in advance.

  • Do jobs inside a gated community need management approval?

In most communities, additions to a facade are subject to management approval. After the site survey, we provide the dimensioned drawing in a form you can submit to management. If there is a standard design or a color restriction, we confirm together that we comply with it before fabrication starts.

  • My street is narrow. Can you bring in long parts?

Where we can’t, we split the fabrication so it can be joined on site. That is not our first choice, because it increases the number of site joints, but on most narrow streets it is the only solution. Sending photos of the street and the entrance facade lets us make this decision before the site survey.

  • Does my apartment building need a fire escape stair?

That is not something we can determine. The requirement is set by regulations according to building height, number of floors and occupancy class; you need to get a definitive answer from the relevant municipal department. Once it is clear that a stair is required, fabrication, installation and construction drawings are within our scope.

  • Do you also work on the Anatolian (Asian) side?

We do. The north and west are where we work regularly, so scheduling is more flexible there; on the Anatolian side, we plan according to the size of the job. Send us your location and the dimensions of the job, and we will explain how we work in that district.
