Metal fabrication and installation in Balıkesir
Coast and farmland side by side; wind load is both an opportunity and a design constraint.

01Area
What kind of work comes up in Balıkesir?
Balıkesir is a province where coast and farmland coexist, and the two ask different things of us. Along the Bandırma and Edremit gulf coasts there are holiday homes, villas and coastal buildings; inland and around Susurluk, livestock and agricultural buildings dominate. Olive-growing facilities along the Ayvalık and Burhaniye belt form a category of their own.
The deciding factor common to both is wind. Balıkesir is one of the provinces with the highest wind potential in Türkiye, and on lightweight roofs this is a direct design issue. The wind’s effect on a roof is usually not to press down but to suck upward; so the real question is how well the cladding is fixed to the structure, and the structure to the foundation. That is why, on coastal and open-ground jobs, we take connection and anchoring details as seriously as section sizes.
On the coast, the second issue is salty humidity. Because the wind carries salt inland, the effect is not limited to seafront plots. Here our standard approach is a galvanized structure, stainless steel fasteners and sealed ends on hollow sections; all cutting and drilling is finished before painting.
Inland, agricultural buildings come to the fore: barns, hay barns, machinery sheds and greenhouses. The wind is still in the calculation here, but this time it is also a resource that can be used for ventilation. When the building’s orientation, side wall openings and ridge opening are set according to the prevailing wind, the shelter ventilates itself.
Demand profile
Demand in Balıkesir comes from two settings. From holiday homes and villas along the Bandırma and Edremit gulf coasts: entrance gates, fencing and shading; from inland areas and around Susurluk: barns, hay barns, machinery sheds and greenhouses.
Olive-growing facilities along the Ayvalık and Burhaniye belt form a category of their own: produce and equipment stores, machinery sheds, processing buildings. In these buildings, what matters is clear span and door width — which vehicle will drive in directly determines the bay spacing.

03Local conditions
What drives our decisions in Balıkesir?
Climate, ground, wind and access conditions directly change our decisions on sections, surface treatment and installation. This section explains what we do differently in this area, and why.
01
Wind suction and connections
Balıkesir is one of the provinces with the highest wind potential in Türkiye, and on lightweight roofs this is a direct design issue. The wind’s effect on a roof is usually not to press down but to suck upward; so the real question is how well the cladding is fixed to the structure, and the structure to the foundation. If the section is right but the connection is weak, the problem starts at the connection, which is why we take anchoring and joint details as seriously as section sizes.
02
Salt carried inland
On the coast, the second issue is salty humidity, and the difference here is this: because the wind carries salt inland, the effect is not limited to seafront plots. Along the gulf coast, even a plot a few kilometers inland may need galvanizing. We set the scope according to the plot’s location and the prevailing wind rather than applying a single rule in advance.
03
Spans and vehicles in agricultural buildings
In olive operations and agricultural stores, clear span and door width determine whether the building is usable. If it is not stated at the outset which vehicles and equipment will go in, the bay spacing is set wrong and the building cannot be used once it is finished. We ask for this information explicitly at the site survey; correcting it later means moving columns.
04From the field
Situations we often encounter in this area
We don’t give client names, project names or dates; what we describe is the situation itself and how it was solved.
The cladding is intact but has lifted
The most common roof complaint in a windy region. The cladding sheet itself is undamaged; it has pulled free at the points where it was fixed to the structure. The cause is usually that fixings were left at standard spacing rather than placed closer together for the local wind load. In new fabrication, we set fixing spacing for the region; on existing roofs, we first check the fixing pattern.
A shelter built facing the wrong way to the wind
A situation we encounter inland: an existing barn was set the wrong way to the prevailing wind, and the ventilation doesn’t work. Since the building cannot be turned, the solution lies in reworking the wall openings and the ridge detail. This does not give as good a result as a building set up correctly from scratch, but it brings a clear improvement; it shows the value of fixing the orientation at the outset on new buildings.
05Models
The models we’re asked about most in this area
All are made to measure; the model is a starting point. Changes can be made to suit the dimensions and the opening.
06Delivery and installation
How do we get from Arnavutköy to Balıkesir?
Shipments from Arnavutköy to Balıkesir are planned; parts are prepared in sizes suited to transport and joined on site. On open ground, the crane position and the wind conditions on installation day go into the plan.
Measuring is done in a single visit; on the coast the plot’s exposure, and inland the ground and access, are noted on the same visit. On open ground, wind conditions on installation day go into the plan, because working at height depends on them. We state the exact number of days in the quote after the site survey.
We have no branches or dealers; all fabrication is done in our own workshop in Arnavutköy. Price and lead time depend on the size of the job, the opening and the installation conditions — so we don’t quote a figure or a number of days up front here. Send your measurements and location, and we’ll work it out for your project.
07FAQ
Frequently asked questions for Balıkesir
Is a lightweight roof safe in a windy region?
It is safe when it is properly fixed. Since the wind’s main effect on a lightweight roof is upward suction, what matters is how the cladding is fixed to the structure and the structure to the foundation. If the section is right but the connection is weak, the problem starts at the connection; that is why we calculate anchoring and joint details separately.
Do I need galvanizing even if my plot isn’t near the sea?
Along the gulf coast, the wind carries salt inland, so the effect is not limited to seafront plots. Tell us your plot’s distance from the sea and its location; we will decide together whether galvanizing is needed and, if so, to what extent.
Do you build storage buildings for olive operations?
We do. Machinery sheds and produce and equipment stores are within our steel construction scope. In these buildings, clear span and door width are decisive — stating at the outset which vehicles and equipment will go in makes it possible to set the bay spacing correctly.
My roof cladding lifted in the wind. Will the new one lift too?
Renewing it without finding the cause gives the same result. The most common reason is that fixings were left at standard spacing rather than placed closer together for the local wind load. On the existing roof, we first check the fixing pattern; in new fabrication, we set the spacing for the region.
What information should I provide for an olive store?
Which vehicles and equipment will go inside, what will be stored, and the clear span you need. These three determine the bay spacing and door width. Correcting them later means moving columns, so we go into them in detail at the site survey.
My existing barn is poorly ventilated. Can it be fixed?
It can be improved noticeably. When the building cannot be turned, we rework the wall openings and the ridge detail, so the airflow is re-established in line with the prevailing wind. It is not as good as a building set up correctly from scratch, but the difference is noticeable on site. Send us photos of the existing building and its orientation, and we will tell you what we can gain.
