Because the slats are filled with polyurethane, the shutter stays light and also contributes to heat and sound insulation; as a result, outside noise is noticeably reduced in a closed shop. The tubular motor sits inside the slat roll, so there is no motor box visible outside, and it runs more quietly than chain-driven systems. Side guides keep the slats from blowing out in the wind; guide depth is chosen according to the opening width, and a shallow guide lets the slats slip out on a wide shutter. During a power outage, the shutter is lowered and raised by hand with the manual override chain or pulley — without this part, the shop is stuck either closed or open for the duration of the outage. A rubber seal along the bottom edge of the bottom slat covers small level differences in the floor and softens the impact on closing.
